There we had a tremendous dinner. Fish indeed. And we both like fish a lot. Dining away, we discussed how lucky we were to have found the appartment. Both still grinning. After some coffee and a chat with the owners son and some locals we went back. We were after all rather tired. And again it felt like coming home. Driving through the gate, parking at our very own parking area. Greeting the dogs and cats. We felt blessed. And as if we were at home, we lingered, sitting at the dining table to discuss the events of the day, before going to bed.
We woke up early the next day. I couldn't wait to see the view in daylight. I had already prepared my camera and tripod the night before. The sun wasn't up yet but I could see clouds were floating through the valley. It would be a misty morning. It would be a misty day in Monferrato. But by the time we finished our coffee the sun was gaining power. Soon the clouds and mist evaporated. Now the full beauty of the view was unveiled.
This was to become a fixed morning ritual during our stay. First opening the balcony doors to inspect the view. And every morning it was as different as one could imagine. Sometimes misty, only in shades of grey. Sometimes overcast while pathces of sunlight put the golden leaves of viyards ablaze. Sometimes the soft yellow light caressing the hillsides of this beautiful landscape. Sometimes even grim and rainy, but never unwelcoming.
So we stayed a full seven days and we loved every minute of it. After the daily inspection of 'our' view we mostly went out by car to visit a castle, town or village and to discover the landscape along the way. Monferrato turned out to be a real gem. It's unexpectedly quite and peaceful so close to Turin, which is less than 40 kilometres away.
In short; the whole stay was much more than we had dared to hope for. And although words are nothing but a representation, we hope to convey at least a part of our joy this way. As a compensation for your generosity."
